It Is Better to Trust in the Lord

"Obama wins two presidential elections."

The very words pierced my heart to the very core. And my heart sank with dread.

I had the privilege to watch some of the presidential election progress last night. The Republican ballot was doing well then. I was excited to see who would be the president this morning.

I woke up at 4:30 and prepared to read my Bible. But first, I seriously had to know who had won the election. I knew it would be close, and I was hoping the Republicans had taken the cake.
When I looked it up I was devastated. We had to endure another four years under the reign of a democrat again?! Why?!
As I was thinking about this a couple of scripture verses popped in my head.

"It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. The Lord is on my side, what can man do unto me?" Psalm 118:8, 6

"The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water, he turns it whithersoever he will." Proverbs 21:1

I was instantly reminded that God is still on the throne. Yes, the battle in America for a better President may have been lost, but God still reigns. This encouraged me greatly.

Another few verses that crossed my mind were,

"Let every soul be subject unto the governing authorities. For there is no authority but of God; the powers that be are appointed by God.
Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resists the ordinance of God; and they that resist shall receive to themselves judgment.
For he is the minister of God to thee for good." Romans 13:1, 2, and 4a

Clearly the Lord is saying that our new President has been placed in office by Him. And since that is the case we must respect and submit to that.

I don't want to endure another four years like the previous ones, but God has allowed this to happen for our good. Romans 8:28.

The last thing the Lord showed me about this election is that even though Barak Obama may not be the President I would have preferred in the White House, I still need to pray for him.
(that hit me between the eyes)

So as you go about your daily lives remember, it is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

Oh, and pray for your President, after all, he is the minister of God.

  1. Second Civil War, here we come... JK.

Though it is important that we should be obey our government and submit to this change, it is also important to remember that the Law of God trumps the Law of the Land. When the government asks us to go against God's law, we have to go against the government. Hopefully that doesn't happen anytime soon.

I will be praying for our leaders. When I got up this morning, I prayed that "God's will be done" before checking to see who won. Though I was disappointed with the results, I know that God is in control.

    1. Yeah, but the end is pretty evident. Whether we get the chance to rebel, (which I highly doubt) or not probably wouldn't matter any.
But you are right about that.

Yes, I was sick to my stomach all morning long.
      He is indeed in control!

  2. Great post, Haley. Thank God, HE has control of the helm!

  3. Hey Haley, don't worry about it. I learned that Obama actually learned several things from this last campaign against Romney. Romney nearly tore him to pieces.
It didn't surprise me. Disappointing, true, but not surprising. My brother Adam was right, in a way: "If Obama gets reelected...we had more stupid people than we thought."
But coming from me, I say keep doing what you're doing; keep fighting. Families like us, churches like us, counties that have like-minded people, must keep fighting. 'Cause sooner or later, if Obama keeps doing what he's doing, people will begin to put their feet down and say, "NO FURTHER!"

    1. Well at least he learned something.
I guess I was hoping against hope.
      Yes, true.
That's exactly what my older brother told me to do!

  4. I actually think Obama winning will be better in the long run. Romney was no good either. It's better the Obama takes the blame for the next four years than a "conservative". The country has swung much more to the Right. Another four years of Obama should see an even further swing to the Right. Hopefully.

Either way, God's in control. :)

    1. I think I will have to differ with you on that statement.
Have you seen the movie "2016: Obama's America?" If you haven't you should.
I honestly don't see how it has possible swung right, but then again I'm not really involved in politics.

Yes! That is the most important thing to remember!

    2. Why are you so afraid of a democratic president if by your own addmission you 'are not really involved in politics'? The movie you referenced sounds like a propaganda champaign designed to incite fear in people who may not be fully educated on all the issues involved.

    3. Anna, the movie is not propaganda, but rather explores our president's upbringing; his education, lifestyle, and his mentors. Great movie for anyone who desires to know more about where our country is headed, based on where our president came from..
